From Body mind soul or your community, we can all make changes. The problem is that from time to time we struggle with what powers us through the doldrums of our quest. These are sometimes called The Dip if you are familiar with Seth Godin’s work. How do you make changes in your life? That is a challenging question because it all really and honestly depends on your thoughts. If you have a strong why then you will be able to power through some of the slow periods. Yet you will also have some problems that will test you and your resolve.
No point of reference
One of the big problems people face is that they have no point of reference on their journey. They have just been trekking along and doing what they need to do. Yet they don’t see the changes that they are making. So if you can’t tell if you are progressing, why keep trying? You don’t even really know where you started you weren’t paying attention. You didn’t have a fully intentional start. The intentionality is the key to any change you want to do in your life. If you just want something It’s not going to happen. That isn’t how the law of attraction works. You do think of the goal, but you have to make an effort to attract the results. The end goal is important but so is the journey you are going to make.
Document your progress
The ultimate goal is why but what that goal means to you is what gets you the momentum to keep moving even when the reward isn’t hitting your mind at that moment. To give yourself that reward bump recording your progress will often do that very trick. You can see how far you have come. Look at 75Hard this is a mental toughness program that part of the steps you take is you take a selfie of yourself. This is so, at the end of the 75 days of work you see the benefits of your hard work. Without the picture each day, you will wonder if you are doing any good and all of those before pictures show you that you are a better person each and every step along the way.
Journaling or some other form of documentation is great for helping you make changes that last. Those changes also help you inspire others to do something great with their life. IF you want your wife to lose weight then you start losing the weight. If you want your sons to stay healthy and fit. Start eating the food you want them to eat. So always work on yourself first and document the work.
Talk about the mental struggles you have. Yeah, they may not be fun but those struggles are what allows you to find the fulfillment you are craving. Discomfort is the currency for the life you want. So why not put the payments into the ledger?
Take smaller bites of that elephant
So many times we see this big huge hairy audacious goal we want and try it out for a week or two and then we fade off. Why is that? Most of the time it is because the sheer scale of the project is scary. We often will talk ourselves out of doing it because it seems too big.
This is where you have to stop and look at the steps it takes to get to your goal. Look at each of those giant steps and break them down into smaller bite-sized pieces. Eat the elephant one bite at a time. If you have several big steps to take in there who says you have to do them all at the same time? Do each part as you can. Instead of trying to get all of the sub-projects done at the same time.
The key is to win the race not get to a destination faster.
There are many ways you can get to your goals but as mentioned earlier you have to do it with intention. Plan the next step then take action. Us men are based around action and those who are action-oriented get farther than those who just sit around and dream. So quit being the dreamer and become the doer.
