One of the greatest movies that happen around the time of Christmas is Jean Shepards, A Christmas Story. I am sure you know the movie is based on his book of essays, In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash. Now we have a tradition with this move that is is the only thing watched for the first half of Christmas day. It gets replayed about 3-4 times. We all laugh, well ok, I laugh at all the same parts. This movie is just magical in my never to be humble opinion.
Then earlier this year it dawns on me that the Laws of Attraction are present in this wonderful movie about this 12-year-old boy living in Holman, Indiana, and all that he really wants is, say it with me,
An official Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot Range Model air rifle.
We could add with a compass in the stock and this thing which tells time. Fun Fact: that thing which tells time isn’t a watch it is a sundial. Anyhow, I wanted to talk about how this delightful movie shows you how the laws of attraction work.
Proclaim your desire
Right off the bat in the very first scene, you know what Ralphie wants for Christmas. The rifle is displayed in Higbee’s Corner display window. You can hear by the narrator’s voice that he is so excited about getting his hands on the spring air rifle. That he proclaims his desire to get this firearm.
He writes his dream down and starts to tell everyone he knows. You also see in a few scenes that you have to tell people even if they are not up for your dream. His mom and Miss Shields both are examples of not everybody is going to support your dream.
There is also the example of some people who you believe are going to be on your side but they also won’t support your dream. Much like how The Department Santa tells him that he will shoot his eye out.
You may draw some people who don’t want you to achieve your dream but you need to proclaim it will all the conviction and confidence of Ralphie.
One of the reasons you want to tell your goals to other people is because you never know who is listening and who may be able to help you. Because at the end of the show you see that The Old Man was listening to him the whole time and he decided to help Ralphie with his dream and bought him his first BB gun.
Visualize you having your goal
We also see our little ralphie doing lots and lots of visualization when it comes to him getting his rifle. The big one we see is then he saves his family from Black Bart.
After proclaiming your desire you have start visualizing what it is going to be like when you have received your goal. What is it going to look feel even smell like? Get that image in your head. What is having that goal achieved going to do for you? How is it going to help you in other parts of your life? Start visualizing every possible scenario as Ralphie did.
Believe you will get it
Finally, believe that you will get it. Believe it so much that you act like you already have it. This is important because your mind will start working on the upper limit challenges you will be faced with thinking that you don’t deserve completing this goal.
Ralphie believed and yet he faced an upper limit challenge too. He almost did what his mother said he would do and almost shot his eye out. She had that much influence over him.
Mom’s Law of attraction almost came true
We also see that the laws of attraction also can go the other way. Mom fears that bb guns were dangerous. She was afraid that Ralphie was going to damage one of those brilliant blue eyes. Every time he brought the topic of the gun up she replied with the classic mother’s block of, “You’ll shoot your eye out.
She also believed this and because of this, her own Law of attraction happened. Luckily it didn’t fully land it just hit his glasses but if she put a little more belief into the thought she may have had a One-Eyed Ralph.
So As you enjoy your Christmas season and if there is something you are really wanting then use the Laws of attraction. You don’t have to use it to get a change of jobs or for you to get your business off the ground. You can also use it to get a gift you have had your eye on for a while.
