As with any group you have to have rules. The rules are not a means of keeping the members of the mastermind from reaching their potential but actually meant for them to grow. This helps people know where they can and can’t go as a group.
Here are some good rules to have in your mastermind agreement.
Who can attend the group?
This rule keeps just anybody from attending your mastermind meetings. If this rule isn’t in place, you may have someone who sends their assistant to take notes. I know the chances of this are rare at best but I would take it that the speaker of this video has had people do this before.
The big problem with this is, with a stranger showing up to a mastermind meeting, it disrupts the confidentiality of that meeting. This is where the group should be able to meet and talk in full confidence that what is said doesn’t leave the group.
Confidentiality
What happens in Mastermind stays in mastermind unless agreed upon by the whole group. This is for people to be able to feel comfortable enough to share their thoughts and aspirations.
Many times these are very personal and often guarded. don’t ever violate a person’s trust just because you didn’t think it would matter. If you are going to share anything the way said or did in a group ask for permission. If there is any objection by anybody then you drop it
Attendance and participation
Everybody has to attend. Set up a number of allowed absences before they are dropped by the group. Yeah, it may sound a bit harsh but these people are there to help you as they are depending on your help.
If you are bailing all the time then you really are not fully up to speed. Then people are trying to remember if you were there for a meeting when this or that was exposed. It is too much of a headache for the rest of the members if you don’t show up when needed
Unbiased constructive feedback
Be ready to have criticism on an idea from time to time. When it happens don’t take it personally. They are saying that for the purpose of helping you. If you are that emotionally immature and get butt hurt because somebody isn’t agreeing with you, then you have other problems you need help with.
So take the criticism and thoughts and take them to heart. If you listen and properly weigh them against the rest of your actions you will grow in ways you never thought possible.
No Conflict of Interest
Conflicts of interest damage so much trust that it is better if you excuse yourself from the group while a conflicting topic is being talked about. More often than not this won’t be an issue but if the need is it is good to have the rule in place.
Accountability
This is one reason why Masterminds are also called accountability groups. Be prepared to be held accountable for not reaching your set goal. If you can’t make the goal you will have to explain why. Then you will need to be ready to be called out if the group doesn’t buy your excuse
